Festival Programme

This year's Food and Farming Festival will take place on Saturday 2 September 2017. This date will coincide with the Scottish Food Fortnight. Events take place on the Saturday in The Square, Huntly and in the Stewarts Hall, Gordon Street.

The 2017 programme will be updated as details are confirmed and will be downloadable here as soon as it is available. Further details of some of these events are available on the ' Events' page.

In addition to events on the day, there will be a number of other events taking place outside of the two main venues. Some of these will be over the weekend of the Festival, others will be on various dates over the weeks until Halloween. These will include the following:

  • Open music session
  • Greenmyres Farm open day.




09.00 – 16.00 Extended Farmers Market with over 50 stalls showcasing the best of local producers, including streetfood.

09.00 – 16.00 Children’s Entertainment including face-painting, and bouncy castles,
10:00, 5km 11:00 Huntly Room to Run - from the War Memorial, details and times on the 'Events' page. Juniors 10:00, 5km 11:00.

10.00 Tesco dog show (for charity) Market Muir. Entries from 10.00, judging at 11.00.

Slow Food at the Farmers' Market : Information, chat, children's activities and food tastings will be available featuring traditional ingredients from the Ark of Taste catalogue.
10:30 to 14:00 Food demonstrations. Chef Lesley Gillespie from The Chard and Slow Food Chef Alliance will demonstrate dishes throughout the day . The theme this year will focus on how to prepare and cook Game Birds and will also feature guest producers using their seasonal produce from the market.

14.00-16.00 'Harry Potter' tea party. Includes a magic show from Allan's Magic. In the main hall,
16.00 World Stovies Championship in the Main Hall. Could you be the next World Champion? Judging at 16.00 (bring your entries from 10.30 to the Stewarts Hall)
16.00 Shortbread Competition in the Main Hall. Who makes the best shortbread in the Huntly area? Deans will be the judges. Judging at 16.00 (bring your entries from 10.30 to the Stewarts Hall)
16.00 Poetry Competition, Brian Nisbet Poetry Award 2017. Poems on the subject of 'Magic'. Rules on the 'event details' page. Prize award at 16.00


11.00 Tap O Noth Permaculture tour Farm tour at Rhynie. , Tap o' Noth Farm, Rhynie. Free admission. Duration - 1 hour.

10:30am Harvest Festival service, Christ Church, Huntly,.

12.00-16.00 Greenmyres Community Turbine Opening Ceremony. A range of activities will be on offer during the event, including guided tours of the community farm, information stalls from some of our partners, supporters and local organisations, and music and dance from local groups. A shuttle bus service will be available from Huntly Town Centre with the opening ceremony itself held at 14.00.
